Disabling Device Drivers
You may on occasion need to disable a device driver whilst testing or determing why your system is failing to start properly. This can be achieved easily using the Windows built in device manager.
In order to access the device manager in XP for example you right click on the My Computer icon and click on manage. Refering to the image you can then click on device manager and it will display a list of devices on the right. Click on the device and expand the group if necessary.
Right click and left click on properties. You can see the at the bottom an option called 'Device Usage'. You can disable the device using the drop down and then click OK. To complete you will usually need to restart your computer. To re-anable simply follow the procedure again and select re-enable.
